Aroma

We usually buy our dinner at the nearest Aroma branch in our house.

We already had too much of their chicken and noodles, that this time we bought something new, Broccoli Shabu-Shabu and Fish Tofu

Surprisingly, both were good - tasty and they were generous with their portions

Thor with Conti's Pies and Le Petit Artisan Mochi

I was torn between Arthur (comedy) and Thor. If I want to laugh or I wanted something that will stimulate my brain, sort of.  So, I asked my sister who had watched both, what she thought was best. She answered, Thor. She said the effects were great in 3D. So the next day I went to Greenbelt to watch.

Photobucket

I brought with me Chimara's Popcorn, Le Petit Artisan Black Sesame Mochi, Conti's Salmon and Chicken Pie and Crukitchen White Chocolate Oatmeal Bar.

I chose one of the best seat inside, F16.  It was eye-level with the screen so I was able to watch comfortably.

My sister was right. The movie was good. I enjoyed every moment inside the cinema. Not only was it 3D and Chris Hemsworth an eye-candy, it was also funny. My eyes were even glued to the screen all throughout the movie. It was really great watching it in 3D. It was as if you were inside and not an outsider looking in. I also kinda like my theater snacks.

The Salmon Pie, something new from Conti's, was as good as their Chicken Pie and packed with salmon filling too.

The Black Sesame of Le Petit Artisan was something that is hard to describe. When I asked the lady staff of Le Petit to describe it, she said that it was chewy, the entire mochi was chewy. So even if I was skeptical at first, I got curious with the chewy part.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Well, it was chewy, but not the type of chewy I thought, or not the mochi-chewy, but bread-chewy. The Black Sesame taste too was very mild. It was entirely different from the Custard and Chocolate Mochi I had in Das Gute HK, which were a mixture of a munchkin and a mochi, and with custard and chocolate fillings, Le Petit Black Sesame has none.

Mother's Day at Pepper Lunch

Last Mother's Day, with my sister and her Singaporean boyfriend still in town, we had a mini get-together at Pepper Lunch in Greenbelt 5.

The choices that afternoon were Pepper Lunch and Mongkok.

My sister wanted Mongkok cos she said she already tried Pepper Lunch in Singapore and didn't like it. But my brother-in-law told her that the Pepper Lunch here was different. That it is good.

There was a long line outside the resto that we had to wait for close to 20 minutes just to be seated.

When I gave my usual order of Unagi /Salmon to the cashier I was told that it was no longer available. They don't serve unagi anymore.

I asked @pepperphil in twitter what's the reason behind the removal of Unagi in their menu and was told that Unagi prices are going up every month thus they cannot resell anymore at their price.

With the Unagi/Salmon Combination out of the picture,  I just ordered the Salmon Pepper Rice, but now even their mini salad was gone. The choices now for the add P60 combo was a drink, miso soup or seasonal soup (cream of mushroom that afternoon) or mashed potato or kuromitsu soft ice cream.

There were 8 of us that afternoon. 3 ordered the Double Salmon Pepper Rice (meaning with extra salmon) with 2 Cream of Mushroom Soup and one (me) Goma Kuromitsu. I also ordered my fave Shake Shake Spicy Tuna Salad. YUM!!! But I still miss my Unagi.

One (my sister's bf) ordered the Chicken and Angus Steak with Pepper Rice and Goma Kuromitsu.

I didn't take a pic but based on his empty plate I guessed he liked it.

My sister ordered the Beef Pepper Rice with Cream of Mushroom Soup.

When her order arrived she said that that was not what she wanted to order and just forgot to change it. So she didn't like it that much (she's the only one who didn't like Pepper Lunch). She said it was too salty for her. My brother-in-law defended his favorite resto and told her that maybe she put a lot of the seasonings/condiments. He said that it was already seasoned and that you just adjust it according to your taste.

My brother-in-law had the Cut Steak with Pepper Rice and Miso Soup.

Photobucket

He said that it was good as always. He just forgot to have it with extra egg. He liked it that much that he ate almost half of my rice and my mother's rice and another order of a plain rice.

While my preggy sister and my brother both had the Curry Beef Rice, one with Goma Kuromitsu and the other with Mashed Potato.

 Photobucket

We were surprised that now the Curry Beef Rice comes with a sprinkling of cheese on top. And as expected, anything with cheese is delicious.

Since it's mother's day, my preggy sister and my mother each got a free yakisoba of their choice. They both chose the Seafood Yakisoba which honestly was not worth its 340 price. And the seafood being little shrimps only.

Crukitchen and FMK

I was supposed to go to the Weekend Bakers' Dozen of Power Plant mall and at the Forever 21 sale in Megamall, after getting my phone at Nokia Glorietta, but decided to stay because of the traffic that I had to brave thru, and I was really hungry I thought I would pass out.

So when I can no longer take it inside Forever 21 in SM Makati, I went outside and was greeted by the number of booths/sellers on the aisle of SM Makati. Some sell savory dishes while others sell sweets.

I had free samples of the Pichi-Pichi and Sapin Sapin of Dolor's Kakanin, and Food for the Gods of FMK.

But I bought something else.

I first bought one each of the Sunflower Oaties, Lemon Dream Oat Bar and Dark Chocolate Chips Cookie (for my mother) of FMK and White Chocolate Oatmeal Bar and White Chocolate Cookie of Crukitchen.

I ate the White Chocolate Oatmeal Bar of Crukitchen on my way to Greenbelt 5, but had to turn around because I wanted to buy more, as in 10 bars more, just for that day.

Photobucket
Photobucket

It was good. Chewy, not too sweet and the white chocolate will just melt in your mouth. It was healthy and sinful at the same time.

Photobucket
While their White Chocolate Cookie is my type of cookie. Not too sweet, creamy, and crispy on the edges but chewy the rest of the way.

Photobucket
FMK's Food for the Gods was moist but a little too sweet for me. While their Sunflower Oaties were like oatmeal cookies in taste but with generous amount of sunflower seeds incorporated in each cookie.

 Photobucket
Their Lemon Dream Oat was very tangy and a tad too oily.

The seller in Crukitchen said that they also have a booth at the Weekend Bakers' Dozen of Power Plant Mall. She also told me that they also supply some of the pastries/sweets of Starbucks, Dulcinea and other cake/coffee shops, which names I forgot.

Barbara's Intramuros

Photobucket
My sister and her Singaporean boyfriend was here on a short vacation. Since she (my sister) wanted her boyfriend, to sort of have.a taste of Filipino food and at the same time learn a little something about our culture, she reserved a whole table for our family at Barbara's in Intramuros, for a dinner buffet with cultural show.

Photobucket

We were the first to arrive at Barbara's that night that we had the buffet table all by ourselves for a good 15 minutes before the other guests started to arrive.

Photobucket
Photobucket

The buffet started at 6PM and the cultural show at 7PM.

Photobucket

On the table were Filipino favorites like

 Photobucket
Kare-Kare - thick and peanutty, but mostly beef tripe and none of the beef meat

Photobucket
Laing Espesyal - the saucy type of laing and not the dry type that we usually have at home ( my father was from Bicol, so it's a staple in our house)

 Photobucket
Grilled Liempo - they said it was good, didn't try it though, they also like the dipping sauce it came with

Photobucket
Grilled Bacalao - this was what I had a lot of, and the Laing Espesyal, these two mains were only what my diet can afford

Photobucket
Miki Bihon - plenty of veggie toppings, didn't find any miki though

Photobucket
Pandan Rice - fragrant, fluffy rice

For starters they have Ensaladang Mangga Salad, which was mostly cucumber, that I asked my mother if it was really ensaladang mangga ( green mango salad).  Also, The greens used were spicy and bitter.
Photobucket
Photobucket

They also have molo soup, which tasted great.
Photobucket
Photobucket

For dessert they have Ginataaang Halo-Halo on cute glasses,
Photobucket

Cassava Bibingka - love the top layer, and Banana Sesame
 Photobucket

Only lemon water was part of the buffet. If you want juice, soda or iced tea, you'll have to pay extra.

We finished eating just in time for the 7PM show.

First, they put lighted candles on all tables,

closed almost all of the lights,

After the performances, they asked for volunteers to dance tinikling (bamboo dance) with the performers, only one volunteered that they randomly selected participants. I was one of the "lucky few" who got chosen. I was laughing when I was asked to join, hesitant too, but accepted it anyways,   I stopped over analyzing and just had fun.
 Photobucket

After that sort of mini game, they also called birthday celebrants on stage, gave each one a birthday cake with candles to wish on, while we all sung happy birthday.

Well, in spite of the buffet being limited, we enjoyed, sort of, the cultural show that it came with.
Also, the ambiance of the restaurant, which was grand old world. It was also fun seeing how the generation many, many years before had lived. How elegant, even the furniture were.

My sister said that Barbara's gave her that ancestral house feeling. That she felt we were just having dinner at our rich great, great, great grandmother's house.
