Baker's Passion Panini

Back at Baker’s Passion for the nth time, I was ready to try another of their paninis.

The server kept on insisting that I order the Grilled Chicken and not the Italian Adobo, when I asked why, he answered just because he doesn’t eat pork (wrong answer, he should have answered, because it’s better). It was one of the reasons that I went in to dine in the first place. I read its description on the menu outside.

I like the white cheese from the 5-cheese Panini (also from them) that I ate a couple of weeks back, that I envisioned it with the adobo to be a much better pair, to be yummier than it sounded, I was wrong.

The Italian Adobo Panini P118, adobo cooked in Italian herbs served with mixed greens and white cheese with balsamic reduction. An order of the Panini comes with fries, tomatoes and salad greens.

The bread was dry so as the filling. The entire set was very bland, from the bread down to the fries. The only saving grace of the dish was the salad greens (actually, just a leaf) and the balsamic vinaigrette that dresses it.

I didn’t enjoy eating it, it actually worsen my toothache. It was dry, hard and rubbery (makunat) that I lost a tooth filling eating it.

Good thing that they have free wi-fi (very fast connection), bad thing was you need to pay P25/hour of electricity use (if you charge your laptop).

On my way out of the bakeshop, I was told by the manager that all breads, cakes and pastries were at 20% discount. Since, I was in the mood for something chocolatey, I asked the manager to recommend the best chocolate anything that they have. She said that for chocoholics, their Supermoist Jr. P49 will never disappoint. So, with that said, I bought a piece.

Photobucket
It really was moist, but not fudgy. You can also tell that they used low-quality chocolates/cocoa, thru its taste.

Photobucket
You won’t enjoy eating the cake without the ganache, it’ll taste ordinary. The ganache made eating the supermoist a lot better.

Banana Leaf Asian Cafe

After visiting my father at the cemetery we went to Powerplant Mall for dinner.

There were lot of choices, but all of us agreed on Banana Leaf.

I have eaten here thrice, ordered the Roti Chanai with Curry Sauce twice and the Roti Dog once.

I liked both, but my fave is still the roti chanai with curry sauce.
This time around I got to sample a lot since I wasn’t dining solo.

For appetizers, we ordered Chicken Satay P128, Vegetable Samosas P118, Vietnamese Prawn Ball with Cheese P168, Vietnamese Steamed Rice Roll P128.

All were good, but the steamed rice roll was my fave. With crunchy, peanut-buttery taste and texture, who could resist?

And of course, the Roti Chanai with Cheese P88 and Curry Sauce P30.

This was the favourite of everyone, cheese and curry, a good combination.

For our entrees, Malayan Chicken Curry P188, Hong Kong Beef Curry P178, Tilapia Fillet with Malayan Cream Sauce P238, and Deep Fried Squid Flavoured in Homemade Spicy Garlic P228.

The squids were just breaded and fried and didn’t have any sauce to go with it, so we asked for something to dip it into and were given vinegar with chili.

The chicken was dry and the sauce was thin and a little bit bland. While the beef curry was tender and the sauce a little thicker and tastier but still not as flavourful and thick as the curry sauce they sell separately for P30.

The tilapia fillet presentation’s quite different, it has breaded tilapia strips on top of the whole tilapia. The sauce wasn’t as creamy as it looked, a little salty too.

For our rice and noodles, Nasi Goreng P188, Penang Fried Rice with Salted Fish and Chicken P188 and Mee Goreng P188.

Another favourite of everyone was the mee goreng. It was rightly-flavored, with al dente noodles and quite a lot of toppings/ingredients/meats.

I also found the nasi goreng to be tasty as well & liked the fried egg on top.

For drinks, Tea Tarik and Thai Iced Teas.

teatarik
The tea tarik’s good also, just the right blend of tea and milk.

Overall, we liked most of what we ordered and most probably will order the roti chanai with curry sauce and mee goreng again. The bad part of the whole dining experience, 3 of my family members got light-headed and nauseated after the meal.

They attributed it to too much salt/msg in the food.

Pizza Hut’s P99 Meal

I have seen the P99 Meal poster for such a long time but it was only last week that I got to try one from the many choices.

I ordered the one with the personal-size pizza, mushroom soup and drink.

I chose the Sausage and Cheese for pizza and 7-up for my drink.

While waiting, I was given Garlic Sticks to munch on.

Photobucket
They were thick and chewable and with good butter and garlic taste.

Next came the Mushroom Soup.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Good mushroom taste with just the right thickness and consistency. The croutons have a good butter/garlic taste that completed the soup experience.

Last came the Sausage and Garlic Pizza.

It was slightly bland and lacked saltiness. I can’t continue eating something that tasted like that that I ordered Cheesy Cheddar Dip to add some taste to it. It worked, and I finished the entire pizza with gusto.

Photobucket
The Cheesy Cheddar Dip was cheesy (?) with a pimiento aftertaste that I like.

Photobucket
Overall, the meal was worth the P99 that I paid for and I would definitely come back to try the other combinations.

From the lot, my favourites were the Spicy Squid (chewy and not rubbery, breaded squids), Breaded Fish Fillet (very soft, complemented by the mayo dip), Ensaladang Mangga (who wouldn’t like it, especially when paired with the viands), Bagoong Rice (incredibly tasty, might be salty for others but just right for me), Buco Pandan Salad (cream and buco pandan flavoured gelatine, need I say more?).

Overall, with the price and the number of dishes in the buffet, it’s really more than affordable. You really get more than your money’s worth.

Photobucket
Btw, it’s only available from Monday – Friday, 11am-2pm. For dinner and Sat-Sun lunch and dinner, the price is P288. But it’s inclusive of drinks, live cooking show and international food choices.

Cafe Miranda's Breakfast Buffet

I have eaten here countless of times already. From Party Buffet, Breakfast Buffet to Lunch Set.

I like their breakfast buffet and lunch set, but not their party buffet. Why? Because during the tasting part (of what to include on the party buffet), the food tasted delicious. But on the actual party itself, they were bland. This happened twice already. I guessed they haven’t mastered catering for a large number of people yet.

For the breakfast buffet that day, the choices were, Beef Embutido, Longganisa, Yasai Itame (chopsuey with shiitake mushrooms), Fried Fish, Salted Egg and Tomatoes, Omelette (cook your way), Arroz Caldo, Steamed Rice, Breads with Butter and Jams (Orange Marmalade and Strawberry Jam), Salads, Assortment of Cheeses and Cold Cuts, Fresh Fruit Slices, Coco Crunch, Corn Flakes and Finesse Corn Flakes, Coffee, Tea and Juices (Pineapple and Grapefruit).

From the spread, I liked the Beef Embutido (which I thought to be Fish Relleno at first) and the Yasai Itame (I took extra servings of the mushrooms). The omelette that day was a little bland for me (may be because the omelette station was jampacked with waiting orders).

Since I still want to have dessert even for breakfast, I had Coco Crunch.
