HK Eats – Bubba Gump

Photobucket
Photobucket
After admiring the breathtaking view of HK skyline at night at The Peak, we came down for a very late dinner at Bubba Gump.

Photobucket
We ordered their Frankie‘s Baked Seafood Rice HK$118 and Duck Shrimps.

The Seafood Rice has shrimps, calamari, fish, spinach and rice with a Parmesan cream sauce and topped with jack and cheddar cheeses. This dish is exclusive to HK Bubba Gump only, made creatively by Chef Frankie.

Photobucket
This was very good, as in to-die-for delicious. Equal seafood, rice and sauce ratio. A complete meal by itself, though ordering another entree like the Duck Shrimps wouldn’t hurt.

The Duck Shrimps have perfectly-seasoned, breaded and fried shrimps and crispy fries, served with coleslaw.

Photobucket
I liked the shrimps and fries but not much of the coleslaw. But overall the coleslaw cut the creaminess of the seafood rice a little.

I also had the Cinnamon Bread Pudding with vanilla sauce, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream.

Photobucket
It was also good and delicious.

Bubba Gump 2

Before picking-up my Polly’s Chocolate Cake from the Baker’s Dozen, I grabbed a not-so quick snack at Bubba Gump. I ordered their Old-Fashioned New England Clam Chowder P120 and Dynamite Shrimp P315.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Their Clam Chowder was the thin type but with lots of ingredients of mostly potatoes and some celery, clams (unnoticeable) and sausages. It also has a lot of pepper and whole peppercorn that made the soup spicier than it should be. The whole peppercorn even ruined my okay-soup experience.

Photobucket
The Dynamite Shrimp is made up of breaded shrimps topped with their Asian glaze.

It was the total opposite of its name. It was not spicy at all, more like sweet. It has shredded cabbage underneath that cuts the sweetness of the dish/appetizer. Their Asian glaze resembled the bottled “sweet-chili” sauce sold in supermarkets.

Bubba Gump

Out with a friend last weekend, we had our very late lunch /early dinner at Bubba Gump in Trinoma.

I wanted the I’m Stuffed Shrimp and she, the Grilled Dory Jambalaya.

I thought that the Stuffed Shrimp was big enough for us to share and the Jambalaya was just good for one. I based it on the pictures and menu descriptions.

In the end, we ordered both and the best part was ( may be out of exasperation, ‘coz it took me a long time to decide), my friend footed the bill =)

It was a long wait for our orders to arrive and my friend was right in saying that they should serve something complimentary to take our minds and stomachs off our orders.

After 20 minutes or so, the I’m Stuffed Shrimp P585 arrived.

Photobucket
8 pieces of shrimps stuffed with crab meat, baked in garlic butter and topped with Monterey jack cheese, served with jasmine rice and sides of coleslaw and mama’s best garlic bread.

It wasn’t as big as it looked on the menu. It was stuffed but not big. And even with the garlic butter and the Monterey jack cheese, it was still a little dry.

Photobucket
I like the crunchy, not too-saucy/creamy coleslaw that breaks the familiarity of the dishes combined. The garlic bread was buttery but not garlicky.

The Grilled Dory Jambalaya P430 is from their new menu offering.
Grilled cream dory over a spicy New Orleans’ style jambalaya with tender shrimp and andouille sausage.

Photobucket
This was soooo GOOD. What I thought to be a bland dish was indeed a kaleidoscope of taste.

The scoop of parsley butter on top of the grilled dory, melts on your every move and bite.

The jambalaya as a whole, was saucy, light in taste but rich in flavour.

I thank my friend for ordering this ‘coz I got to try something new and good.

Bubba Gump - Trinoma

I made plans with my sister last Monday to eat at Ruby Tuesday in Trinoma.
Unfortunately, that day they were closed for inspection by their US franchisor.

We scanned the mall directory for other options. My sister said she wanted burger, pasta or something with rice. So I narrowed it down to Friday's, Max Brenner, CPK, Madison Grill, holy Cow and Bubba Gump. She also wanted somewhere she hasn't tried yet, so out were Max, CPK and Friday's. We went to Madison & Holy Cow but both were also closed that time =( So we're left with Bubba Gump.

Bubba Gump is a chain of seafood restaurant inspired by the 1994 film Forrest Gump - wikipedia.

We ordered Texas Cajun Chicken Sandwich P325,

Cajun grilled chicken, crisp bacon, pepper jack cheese & guacamole on a toasted bun.
It comes with fries, coleslaw and whole pickle.

The sandwich was big and delicious. You can taste the grilled flavor of the chicken, the slight spiciness of the melted cheese & the creaminess of the guacamole. When combined, they're incredibly delicious.

The coleslaw was juicy & not dry. It was well-seasoned & there's still a slight crunch in the veggies.

The fries, though, just slightly bigger than the fries of McDo, were crunchy & have a sour cream & onion taste to it.

There's nothing bad we (my sister & I) can say about the sandwich. We kept on saying yummy on everything, even the pickle.

For drinks we ordered the Frozen Lemon-Ups P115.

It comes in either Blue or Pink (color).

It taste like calamansi slush with the best tasting cherry (according to my sister) on top.

It is served on a colored bubble glass which has blinking colored lights at the bottom. You can opt to bring the glass home for an extra P400.

For dessert we had Mini Mud Pie P150.

Layer each of vanilla & chocolate ice cream on an Oreo crust with whipped cream & chunks of snickers chocolate, topped with caramel & streams of chocolate syrup & smothered with crunchy peanuts. Whew!

It is serve frozen with frozen spoon to boot.

It's good but the Rocky Almond Bar of Five Cows still better.
It only has one crust unlike the Almond Bar which looked like an ice cream sandwich.

A mini is already good for sharing. This is the type of dessert which a little goes a long way. Eating too much of it can be nauseating. And as my sister said, you wouldn't be able to enjoy the experience nor the taste of it.

Overall, we were more than satisfied with the speed of service, the attentiveness of the servers & the taste of all our orders.

Even before we were able to finish our meal, we're already planning on what to order for our next visit (Shrimp Po' Boy & To Share Chocolate Cake).
