Their macarons were too sweet and dry.
While their chocolate cake was close to Paul's chocolate cake in taste.

Cabalen and Cafe Mary Grace
It was my mother's special day and my sister and her bf were in town to celebrate it with us.
We had homemade beef burgers and kesong puti sandwiches for breakfast, got ready and then it was off to Cabalen for lunch.
We availed of their eat-all-you-can Filipino buffet. Drinks were not included in the buffet, I just had house water while my mother had Sago't Gulaman, my sister had Green Mango Shake and her bf, Buco Shake.
There were 3 choices for soups that noon, Kalabasa, Sinigang and Bulalo. I had Kalabasa. It was good.
There were many rice, noodles, salads and viands choices but as I'm allergic to shrimps and I wanted to stay away from pork and I just had beef that morning I just chose Beringhe, Pancit Canton, Chicken Adobo, Dinuguan (just the sauce, which btw was very good), Tofu Sisig, Crispy Kangkong, Breaded Dilis (not that good, were a little cold) and Grilled Bangus. For desserts they have Kakanins like Maja Blanca, Palitaw (good), Biko, Leche Flan (which they will give you upon request), Fresh Fruits (Banana, Pineapple), Ginataang Halo-Halo, Minatamis na Saging and Halo-Halo.
As I love Gulaman and Sago, I had a lot of Halo-Halo and filled them mostly with Gulaman and Sago. I had the traditional Filipino Halo-Halo with evaporated milk and also the Thai version with coconut milk. I love Halo-Halo so much that I just had one plate of the buffet and filled the rest of my tummy space with desserts (mostly Halo-Halo).
We walked off the calories by shopping for clothes, accessories, food and home and bedroom accessories. We were so engrossed with shopping that we forgot to stop for dinner and only remembered it 30 minutes to the mall's closing. We chose Cafe Mary Grace.
As soon as we sat down we were told that our orders will be their last orders for the day.
My sister chose Carbonara, Mango Bene and Sangria, while me and the rest had the Mushroom Cream, Chocolate Cake, Black Velvet and Soda (as when we were giving our Peach Tea orders, we were told that the kitchen's already closed:-( )
The mushroom cream was so good, as in really, really good, that my sister even regretted ordering the Carbonara. Thinking about it, I might have one again this week :-)
As the mall's already closed by the time we finished our pasta. We just had the cakes to go.
At home when I ate the chocolate cake, I found it dry and the caramel filling too strong (almost taste like coffee), but when I had it again the next day, the filling was just the way I want it ( subtle caramel taste), the ganache fudgey and the cake a little bit moist.
My sister loves the service at Cafe Mary Grace Robinsons Place Manila. She said that they were courteous, know their products and give recommendations ( they even asked our mother if she suffers from palpitations when drinking coffee, as their coffee is very strong, and thus they recommended decaf for our mother) and very accommodating.

Polly's
In front of Seoul Garden is the kiosk of Polly's.
It has been a long time since I last had a bite of my favorite chocolate cake, that I bought a square 8x8 chocolate cake all for myself.
To try, I bought a slice of their chocolate chip cookie dough cheesecake, which is a good cheesecake. Not too tangy. I like the taste of the cookie dough crust, I just find it too hard to eat with any utensils.
I also bought a piece of their caramel bites.
Layer of coconut, caramel and chocolate.
It was good and liked by all who tasted it ( my sister and brother-in-law), the condensed milk/milky taste was very prominent. I liked that the coconut cuts thru the sweetness of the caramel/condensed milk.

Starbucks Chicken Galantina
After the movie (Pirates of the Caribbean), since we (my family and I) weren't that hungry, we just had snacks at Starbucks near Bayview in Roxas Blvd.
We all ordered sandwiches, drinks and cakes.
I had the Chicken Galantina Sandwich, Venti Green Tea Soy Frap, a slice of Chocolate Cake and a Dark Chocolate Macadamia Cookie.
I like the galantina because it is filled with chicken meat, the entire stretch of the whole wheat bread, plus it has cheese. And of course I like the green tea soy frap and the chocolate cake.
The dark chocolate macadamia cookie was very sweet and doesn't have that much chocolate nor macadamia. The white chocolate version of it during the holidays was still better.

Dell’s Food Shop
While waiting for my friend to arrive, I went around the mall (Times Plaza) and came across Dell’s Food Shop. At front were standees of their various awards and recognition, that got me curious that I went in and took a look at their products.
They have a canteen set-up like Goldilocks, where all viands are displayed, but they also have some viands that are made to order. They also offer cakes, pastries, merienda (guinatang halo-halo, pancit) and kakanins.
Since I only want something to-go, I bought a piece of their Chocolate Cake P28 and a slice of their Biko de Palawan P25.
The Chocolate Cake is 2 layers of chocolate cake, filled and iced with rum-flavored chocolate icing.
It taste different because of the rum used, like it was stale or old. But judging from the soft and fluffy chocolate cake, you’ll think otherwise.
The Biko de Palawan’s only difference from the common Biko was its color. It was color purple, but didn’t taste of ube/purple yam. It also has grated cheese on top instead of latik. Despite that, it tasted the same as that of regular Biko.

TAPA KING
Before hearing mass at the Baclaran Church we (my husband and I) had a late lunch of
Tapa Queen (plate) P125, Tapa King (bowl) P72, Palabok P68 and Chocolate Cake P50 at Tapa King in Mall of Asia.
I used to eat here back in college and it used to be good, with the tender but still juicy beef. That day what was served were somewhat dry and rubbery (for both tapas). Their palabok was also dry but okay-tasting.
I was hesitant to order dessert with their not-so-good food that day but when I asked the server where they source their chocolate cake she told me that it’s from their sister company, Sugarhouse. I thought to myself that since they’re known for their cakes (which tends to be expensive), this was a rare chance for me to sample one for more or less half the price of Sugarhouse.
2 layers of chocolate cake filled with caramel and coated with chocolate icing.
The caramel and chocolate were both good. The cake was also moist but somewhere in between it's reminiscent of the “sweetheart pastry” (the rectangular-shaped, purple-colored pastry) that’s sold in corner bakeries, which was good but cheap.
I just think that for that taste it should be priced a little less. Don’t get me wrong, it was good but for the “sweetheart pastry” taste and the kind of resto Tapa King is, that it should be priced a little less.
