Kyochon

I wanted the Soonsal, unfortunately it was not available, so I settled for the drumsticks in original flavor. I ordered Kimchi Rice to go with it.

It took quite a long time for my orders to arrive, as they were made to order. 15 minutes to fry their chicken, another 2 minutes for double frying to remove oil completely, and 5 minutes to brush the sauce on all sides carefully.  I thought that I wouldn't enjoy the chicken as the flavors/glaze were on the skin, and as I don't eat chicken skin, that I would just be left with a tasteless chicken. But surprise! Surprise! The flavors were skin deep. The kimchi rice was soooooo spicy, that I felt I was eating chili instead of rice. That explains why every customers that day were ordering garlic butter rice.

They only have one dessert, the Hotteok, Korean pancake with cinnamon and nuts.

It was different as it wasn't the fluffy kind. It has the consistency of a bread, with a pull on your every bite. But it was still good.

I hope they'll add more dessert choices, and that all items will be available every time.

Happy Eating!

P.S. I went back a few days after and fortunately enough, the Soonsal was available. I immediately ordered that plus an order of Butter Rice. Both were just okay.

Friday's Drinks

I love their Strawberry Lemonade, that I can finish 4 glasses in one sitting.

My husband, on the other hand, likes to try their different drinks, like their Pomegranate Margarita and Strawberry Milkshake

For snacks, we ordered the Fish Taco and Chicken Fingers.

Starbucks Chicken and Spinach Roll and Blueberry Dome Cake

The Chicken and Spinach Roll was so good that I finished it right away and would definitely buy one or two of it again. While the Blueberry Dome Cake was too light for my liking.

Friday's

A day out means eating my favorite food or trying out new dishes and restaurants. Yesterday, it meant ordering my favorite Chicken Club Sandwich and Lemonade at Friday's.

My dining experience this time though was different. I was disappointed. I was disappointed, that I had to ask 3 different servers for an extra order of mayonnaise to be served, that I had to ask twice for ice to be put on my lukewarm lemonade (it's too warm for a supposedly cold drink), that their long, thick-cut fries were now short and some were very thin with just the potato skin, and that there were a lot of flies flying around me and my food.

For reference, this was their former long, thick-cut fries.

I can't contain my disappointment, that I texted it to the feedback number written on a small board on my table. In the middle of my dining, a manager approached me and asked about my bad dining experience. Apparently, the text I sent was received by their big bosses. So I explained to her one by one why I sent that text. She told me that she's sorry for the unattentive servers and the warm lemonade. She also told me that they have a scheduled fumigation later that evening (that will addressed the problem with the flies), and that they have a new fries supplier thus the new appearance of the fries. She also offered me free dessert or a free meal to compensate for their shortcomings, but I declined. I just want a better experience next time. And for them to revert back to their old long, thick-cut and prefectly-seasoned fries, which I love.

Sol Thai

I can't think of a new restaurant or dish to try at Robinsons Manila, when I chanced upon a standee of Sol Thai's offerings. Their Yellow Rice with Breaded Chicken was what I ordered. It came with a glass of Pandan Iced Tea.

It was good and filling for its price. The yellow rice underneath was flavored with their yellow curry sauce, which made it tastier.

As soon as you are seated you'll be served with a small plate of wonton chips and spicy peanuts (complimentary, just not sure if it's also refillable, as I didn't ask for another serving). I love how spicy and salty their peanuts were.

Rack's and Shakey's

The whole family went to eat out last Christmas. We had lunch at Rack's of their Surf n' Turf package and Mud Pie and Apple Pie for dessert.

For dinner, we ate at Shakey's. We ordered the only set/deal available that night, Deal #2. For our pizza we chose the Angus Steakhouse. A very sinful choice.

Racks Jamaican Jerk Chicken Plate

I still can't think of where to eat as I've eaten in most of the restaurants in and around robinsons place mall. Then I saw the Jamaican Jerk Chicken Plate of Racks and fell in love with the fried bananas. I love bananas, especially fried ones. So I ordered one. I chose gravy fries as my one side dish.

If you didn't know that you ordered chicken, you might mistaken the chicken thigh with pork ribs. It was flaky, very tender and very tasty with all the jamaican spices and herbs used. But it kinda gave me the malay food taste that I am not fond of as of the moment. But I made it work by dipping it on Racks regular original barbecue sauce.

Everything on my plate was good, even the thick fries and garlicky-gravy, but unfortunately not the fried bananas. They were dry, bland and hard :-( they were unlike World of Chicken's fried bananas/plantains, which are sweet and tender.

Cabalen and Cafe Mary Grace

It was my mother's special day and my sister and her bf were in town to celebrate it with us.

We had homemade beef burgers and kesong puti sandwiches for breakfast, got ready and then it was off to Cabalen for lunch.

We availed of their eat-all-you-can Filipino buffet. Drinks were not included in the buffet, I just had house water while my mother had Sago't Gulaman, my sister had Green Mango Shake and her bf, Buco Shake.

There were 3 choices for soups that noon, Kalabasa, Sinigang and Bulalo. I had Kalabasa. It was good.

There were many rice, noodles, salads and viands choices but as I'm allergic to shrimps and I wanted to stay away from pork and I just had beef that morning I just chose Beringhe, Pancit Canton, Chicken Adobo, Dinuguan (just the sauce, which btw was very good), Tofu Sisig, Crispy Kangkong, Breaded Dilis (not that good, were a little cold) and Grilled Bangus. For desserts they have Kakanins like Maja Blanca, Palitaw (good), Biko, Leche Flan (which they will give you upon request), Fresh Fruits (Banana, Pineapple), Ginataang Halo-Halo, Minatamis na Saging and Halo-Halo.

As I love Gulaman and Sago, I had a lot of Halo-Halo and filled them mostly with Gulaman and Sago. I had the traditional Filipino Halo-Halo with evaporated milk and also the Thai version with coconut milk. I love Halo-Halo so much that I just had one plate of the buffet and filled the rest of my tummy space with desserts (mostly Halo-Halo).

We walked off the calories by shopping for clothes, accessories, food and home and bedroom accessories. We were so engrossed with shopping that we forgot to stop for dinner and only remembered it 30 minutes to the mall's closing. We chose Cafe Mary Grace.

As soon as we sat down we were told that our orders will be their last orders for the day.

My sister chose Carbonara, Mango Bene and Sangria, while me and the rest had the Mushroom Cream, Chocolate Cake, Black Velvet and Soda (as when we were giving our Peach Tea orders, we were told that the kitchen's already closed:-( )

The mushroom cream was so good, as in really, really good, that my sister even regretted ordering the Carbonara. Thinking about it, I might have one again this week :-)

As the mall's already closed by the time we finished our pasta. We just had the cakes to go.

At home when I ate the chocolate cake, I found it dry and the caramel filling too strong (almost taste like coffee), but when I had it again the next day, the filling was just the way I want it ( subtle caramel taste), the ganache fudgey and the cake a little bit moist.

My sister loves the service at Cafe Mary Grace Robinsons Place Manila. She said that they were courteous, know their products and give recommendations ( they even asked our mother if she suffers from palpitations when drinking coffee, as their coffee is very strong, and thus they recommended decaf for our mother) and very accommodating.

Racks and Mcdonald's

Out with my family, we had a very late lunch at Racks.
We ordered one of their family set meals that was good for 10 people. Btw, there were only 6 of us.

The surf and turf platter has a full rack of pork ribs, 2 orders of fish and chips, a platter of rice, a platter of spaghetti, 3 side dishes and 2 pitcher of soda.

For our side dishes we had baked beans, broccoli and cheese and mac and cheese (no photo of the mac and cheese).

I like everything, the pork ribs the least as there were a lot of fatty parts But that afternoon, I surprisingly like the fish and chips more than anything. It was unlike the first time I had it. The breading wasn't that thick that you can no longer taste the fish inside. And I definitely like the tartar sauce. And the crispy, chubby fries.

For my nephew, we ordered clam chowder. An order comes with garlic bread.

My niece was half joking when she said that she now understands why it's called clam chowder as there's only one clam in the chowder :-) nevertheless it was thick and tasty.

After our late lunch we did a little bit of shoe and bag shopping before eating supper at Mcdonald's. They wanted something light as they were still full from our late lunch/early dinner at Racks.

Some of them ordered the Big Mac meal, cheeseburger meal, filet o' fish meal, mostly with caramel sundae and chicken nuggets. While I had the Mc chicken sandwich meal, caramel sundae and chicken nuggets.

I was pretty full after that that I immediately fell asleep as soon as we got home, and didn't have anymore my usual late sweet snack.
