Torch

I often read about them on celebrities' instagram posts. That when my friend asked me where we'll eat, I immediately said, at Torch.

As I love anything with truffle, we ordered the Truffle Fries for appetizer.

They weren't as good as Bistecca or Lusso, that I didn't fight with my friend for the last piece.

For our pizza, we ordered half White Truffle Sausage Pizza and half Philly Cheesesteak Pizza.

We both like the white truffle sausage pizza more, as the philly cheesesteak pizza was too salty for our taste.

For drinks, I had the Pink Lemonade.

The Cake Club

The moment I read about The Cake Club on a blog I follow, I can't get it out of my head, that not even rain nor traffic can stop me from going to Bonifacio High Street.

Photobucket

I have read that their Truffle Fries, Red Beet Burger and Baked Cheesecake Ice Cream are must-tries that I ordered them all.

The Red Beet Burger and Truffle Fries arrived simultaneously. The Red Beet Burger wasn't on a red bun as what the blog said, it's on a ciabatta roll. The Angus Beef Burger was the one with the red beet bun and was their best seller. Apparently the blog gave the wrong info, and thus I ordered the wrong burger.

I didn't like the Red Beet Burger. The red beet patty was soggy and not firm as traditional burgers. The taste too was too Malay ( I'm on Malay food withdrawal, as I had too many on my recent KL and SG trip) and the roll was too oily. My hands were glazed with oil every time I hold it to take a bite. And after just three small bites I stopped pretending liking it and pushed it aside. Also, the goat cheese and walnuts were too minute to have an impact in taste or texture.

While the Truffle Fries smelled mildly of truffle. The top tasted of truffle oil, but the middle and bottom part were just like their regular fries. I even told the server about it. But he said that that couldn't be as the truffle fries were cooked with truffle oil. I would have told him to try it for himself, but as I wasn't in the mood to argue that night, I just let it slide. Anyways, I still prefer Bistecca's Truffle Fries over The Cake Club's.

As I was disappointed with both my orders, and kinda lost my appetite for dessert, I just bought a pint of their Baked Cheesecake Ice Cream to go.

At home, I tried the Baked Cheesecake Ice Cream.

Photobucket

It was just like their Baked Cheesecake. It doesn't freeze like the regular ice cream. It was like you put the cheesecake in the freezer, and every time you take a spoonful, it will still melt smoothly on your tongue. I like it. I like that it's not too sweet, that it's thick but still melts smoothly, that it has a tart taste and that it has generous bits of crust incorporated in the ice cream.

Would I come back? Yes! There are still a lot to try.

La Dolce Vita

As soon as the holy week ended I was back at Power Plant Mall/Rockwell again.

I so wanted to watch Beastly starring Vanessa Hudgens and my crush since Wild Child, Alex Pettyfer.

I was just in time for the 130PM screening, but since I still don't have snacks to eat inside, I chose to watch on the 340PM screening instead.

Photobucket

My snacks were my favorites. The Truffle Fries of Bistecca and the Chicken Parmesan Sliders of Astralis. For dessert was the Blueberry Muffin of Santis and for drinks, I was able to sneak-in a bottle of Perrier Lemon.

After the movie I had a snack again of another favorite, Sango's Maccha Azuki Cornflake Shake.

The Three Musketeers

After my late lunch at Astralis, I tried to burn off the extra calories by walking/shopping inside Powerplant. As if all that I have bought at Forever 21 wasn't enough, I still bought a lot more. There's just a lot of beautiful things to buy inside, and I can't resist.

Two hours have passed since my astralis lunch, and although I wasn't that hungry yet, it was already dinnertime and near the closing time of the mall. In just 30 minutes the mall will be closed, and it will be time for me to go home.

Since I weren't that hungry, I decided to just buy from the two restos that I originally came at Powerplant/Rockwell for - Bistecca for their Truffle Fries and at Sango for their Chicken Curry Burger and Maccha Azuki. So that were my dinner, sans the Chicken Curry Burger as I still have two more Chicken Parmesan Slider left from lunch. I had my bliss just then.

BTW, Bistecca still charges service charge even if you order to go/take home. They are like CPK, but with CPK it's written as packaging charge and not service charge.

Bistecca

Photobucket

One evening, just out of the blue, I thought of eating Truffle Fries at Bistecca. I immediately googled their menu, looking for what else to eat aside from the fries and steak. I found out that their Southern BBQ Prawns were good. So I fell asleep already knowing what to order the next day.

I also found out that you should make reservations when you dine there at night, especially a friday night, because they get full easily. They are not also open all day/night. Their schedule is basically 11-3PM and 6-11PM.

I woke up before lunch the next day and went to Bistecca with an empty tummy.
The first thing that struck me even before I could ask for their menu was their cute napkin folding. When my curiosity passed, I called on the waiter and gave my order.
I ordered the Southern BBQ Prawns with Toast (P350) and the Truffle Fries (P220).

While waiting for my order, a mini plate of wheat toast and compounded butter with garlic were put on my table.

Photobucket

I like the taste of the butter and also liked that the toast were wheat.

Then came my Truffle Fries and Southern BBQ Prawns simultaneously. I like my food arriving at the same time. I don't like it to arrive one after another coz I can't budget how much of a certain food I should eat to make room for the others.

Photobucket

Also at that moment, the waiter lighted the votive candle on my table. Afterwards, I smelled gasoline. I suspected it was the candle, but it seemed something nearer. As I sniffed and sniffed I found out that the gasoline smell came from the fries. The Truffle Fries may smell like gasoline but definitely don't taste like it.

I have eaten a lot of food infused or supposedly with truffle oil, but this was the first time I smelled it. Some said that anything with truffle oil is expected to be expensive but I don't think that the Truffle Fries of Bistecca is expensive. I think it is worthy of its price. And an order is more than enough for one. They might look not that much but you'll get full just by eating a little, maybe it has something to do with the truffle oil.

Photobucket

I even brought some Truffle Fries home and ate it cold the next day. Well, I also like it cold.

Photobucket

And then it was time to taste the BBQ Prawns. The first thing I noticed was how succulent the prawns were. They were succulent, with a sweet BBQ sauce, that kind of reminded me of adobo. A combination that made that four (4) pieces of prawns enough to satisfy my hunger for brunch. Also the wheat toast it came with were the same as the complimentary toast served beforehand.

I was satisfied with my Bistecca experience. Good food, good service and good ambiance = great experience

Photobucket

Next time I can just come by for their Truffle Fries and drinks if I am not that hungry or if I just wanted to hang, or order Fish and Chips or Roast Chicken if I am hungry. But definitely, I'll always order their Truffle Fries.
