Kung Pao Chicken Pasta, 3 ways

Aside from the usual Garlic Cream Pasta, Ravioli, Spaghetti and Lasagna that I love, Kung Pao Chicken Pasta is also in my list of faves.

I have ordered Kung Pao Chicken from a lot of restos already and there are 3 (three) that stood out, and they're from different price range.

If I'm trying to save I'll have the Kung Pao Chicken Pasta P69/79 (set) of KFC.

It's one of their new offering together with the Chicken Alfredo.

It's topped with their Original Recipe Chicken.

It's spicy and nutty (duh). Although the sauce used reminded me of a Lee Kum Kee sauce it still is good. Anyway anything with their chicken on it is good.

When I'm feeling a little bit extravagant I'll have the Charlie Chan Chicken Pasta P195 of Yellow Cab.

It resembled a kung pao chicken in taste & appearance, so I assumed that it's just their own version of it.

The chicken in the pasta has somewhat of a grilled taste to it and the mushrooms added another layer of flavor to an already delicious dish. As expected it is also spicy.

And if I have a lot of money to spare, I'll have the Kung Pao Spaghetti with Chicken P385/255 (Half) of CPK.

It has garlic, green onions, peanuts, hot red chillies in classic kung pao sauce. It's the spiciest and also the simplest in taste among the 3 Kung Paos.

Cafe Provencal

It was the opening day of the highly-anticipated movie of the year (for us girls), Sex and the City The Movie.

Since I still have more than 4 hours to spare before the movie starts (they have a special screening at 7pm, so the next schedule was at 10pm). I decided to kill time by having dessert.

While looking in the mall for a good place to eat, my eyes were caught by a display case of desserts at the entrance of Cafe Provencal. From the Warm Toblerone Pudding to the Chocolate Dome Cake.

I asked the waitress what she'll recommend for dessert. She said that their Beignets P130 are their best seller. With that said and with the memory of Giada's Weekend Getaway Episode in Seattle's Dahlia Lounge, I was sold.

Giada's Weekend Getaway is my fave show of recent. It is a Food Network show where Giada de Laurentiis (of Everyday Italian) shares with the viewers the play by play of her weekend getaway on a certain US state/city. On one episode she ate at Dahlia Lounge in Seattle. Famous for their Crab Cakes and Bang in a Bag. Bang in a Bag is a bag of donuts with vanilla and cranberry dips. She said that it was very good. You can also see from her expression that she really liked the donuts.

Back to Cafe Provencal's Beignets, it was my second time to have beignets, the first time was at Gumbo, but this was my first time to have it with dips.

Beignets are french donut, made from deep-fried dough and sprinkled with confectioner's sugar.

Cafe Provencal's Beignets are 8 pieces of beignets served with custard and chocolate dips.

The beignets were fluffy and light. The chocolate dip resembled a chocolate mousse while the custard was reminiscent of a bavarian cream but thicker and sweeter.

Personally, I liked the custard of the 2 dips. It seemed like I was eating a choux pastry but inside out.

And again since I'm a dessert maniac, I can't wait to try their other desserts and maybe some of their paninis.

Dome's Waffle & Chococcino

I was out last Saturday at Shangri-la Mall, for lunch I had the Roti with Ham & Cheese of Penang Hill and Pandan Juice.

It was raining hard, so a snack of something hot and comforting is a must.

I settled in one of the comfy couches of Dome Cafe, also in Shang, armed with new magazines to read and of course my orders of hot Chococcino P90 and comforting Banana Caramel Waffle P110 (single).

The Banana Caramel Waffle is topped with sliced bananas and drizzled with caramel sauce.

The waffle was soft and buttery, with crusty edges. The caramel sauce was very light.

I don't know if it was because there's no whipped cream on the banana caramel waffle of Dome, that I still prefer Starbucks' waffle with caramel sauce over it.

Starbucks' waffle, though smaller and without sliced bananas, were tastier, sweeter and has crispier edges, the same goes with their caramel sauce, except the crispier part =)Dome's caramel sauce was too light, it was bordering blandness.

Their chococcino is a hot chocolate drink in a cappuccino cup, topped with milk froth and dutch cocoa. It is served with a mini oatmeal cookie.

It is an okay hot chocolate with a twist drink.

When paired (the chococcino & banana caramel waffle), they complemented each other. No sweetness overload, unlike when you take it in other restos.

Penang Hill

This is served from 2-5pm only, on all branches, except the Robinsons Ermita branch. This is part of their merienda specials.

ROTI CANAI WITH HAM & CHEESE P95 aka HAM & CHEESE MURTABAK

It is better than the roti canai of Banana Leaf because it has a ham & cheese filling. The curry sauce it is served with is also spicier & thicker than Banana Leaf.

Even if you don't like Malaysian/Indonesian food, you'll like this one, kids will also like it, just don't let them dip it on the accompanying curry sauce.

A filling dish on its own.
