My friend kept raving about their Buko Salad. She said that she can finish an entire container (big) all by herself. I always wanted to try it out for myself but never got the chance until someone gave my mother a rectangular-container filled with their Buko Salad.

Unlike the common buko salad, Nathaniel’s cream was whipped, giving the salad an airy and lighter feel. I can also finish an entire container all by my lonesome but my sibling beat me to it.

Xin Yi Long Cake Shop

I have read that they sell cute, delicious and "Taiwan Cakes-looking" cakes and pastries. And since Taiwan is famous for their expensive-looking cakes and that they are particular with their presentation and packaging (remember in Meteor Garden where San Chai worked in a bake shop in Taiwan?) I immediately bought one to try, what else but their best seller Blueberry Mousse P55.

I really wanted to try their other mousse because it’s bigger and looked more delicious, but it’s with mocha cake so I just settled with their best seller.

Layers of blueberry-flavored sponge cake and blueberry mousse, topped with blueberry gelatin, sugar icing and dried fruit.

It smelled funky, I don’t know where it’s coming from. The sponge cake was also dry. The only thing that I like in the cake was the blueberry mousse.

Would I come back? May be, I would like to try one of their pastries, the one with “tikoy” outer layer, sponge cake and custard and also their mango bread.

Mega Shawarma

Looking for gifts for my godchildren at the 168 Mall, I got curious with the non-stop long lines of this stall/cart.

They sell Shawarma with regular and special variants for P45 and P50 respectively.

I ordered the special which has beef, cucumber, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, garlic yogurt sauce and cheese sauce inside a soft and warm tortilla.

It’s no wonder that people line non-stop for their shawarma because it really is good, from the tortilla to the fillings and especially the cheese sauce.

Here’s another stall in 168 Mall that has non-stop lines. And again, I got curious.

I ordered their Takoyaki, 4 pieces for P40.

It has a slightly crunchy outer layer but soft insides with squid/octopus in the middle. The sauce was good, the takoyaki itself was not that much.

Roma Pizza

One of the four Viva Italian Pizza of Pizza Hut is the Roma at P299 (Medium 10”) and P479 (Large 14”).

11 toppings on a soft and not-too thick crust, finished off with a drizzle of olive oil on top.

The crust was good, soft and chewy. Though it (Roma) has 11 toppings which are quite a lot, it wasn’t as tasty as their Milano Viva Italian Pizza. It’s a little bland for my taste. It needed something more, something peppery or spicy.

Pizza Hut Viva Italian Pizza

I ordered one of their pizza flavours, the Milano at Medium (10”)-P279, and Large (14”) P429.

Combination of salami, Italian sausage, capicollo ham, oregano with olive oil and Parmesan cheese.

Its crust was something new for Pizza Hut. It’s in between thick and thin but still soft and chewy. The abundance of toppings in the pizza made me like it more. It was also a little bit spicy. If they have it in stuffed-crust then that would be much better.

Dusit Thani’s Truffles and Pralines

A great gift for the holiday season are Dusit Thani’s Truffles and Pralines, choices of Rocher White, Croquantines, Rocher Milk, Dark Truffle, Milk Truffle, Aracia Truffle, one with Pistachio and Nuts, and some I forgot to take note of.

Another from the 20-Yummiest list is the Chocolate Cheesecake of Dusit Thani at P135 per solo size.

Creamy chocolate cheesecake with bread-like crumb coating, topped off with bittersweet chocolate sticks and slabs.

It reminded me more of a chocolate mousse than a cheesecake. It has the consistency and texture of a mousse but with cheesecake taste.

The bittersweet chocolate sticks and slabs on top tasted like the Meiji Black Chocolate of Japan.

Anyways, it is good and I like it, but not the crumb-like coating. It’s like a wet bread and it doesn’t complement the cheesecake. It would be better if they substitute something crunchy instead.

Everyone that I introduced this to has fallen in love with it. They often have it even without me along.

4 pieces of steamed shark’s fin (pork and mushrooms) with haiananese rice, calamansi, soy sauce and chili sauce.

It’s nice to dip the shark’s fin in the chili-soy sauce and take it with their haiananese rice, spicy, affordable and delicious!

I have known of this stall at Robinsons Place Ermita for many years now. It’s also one of the reasons that I got a Flavored Rice In A Box Franchise. I am envious of their success and also amazed with their cooking-style and menu.

I always order the Babes in the Sea-ty, spicy (you can either have it mild or spicy).

Yellow rice with bacon, crab sticks, shrimps, corn, carrots, green peas and others that I can't remember what. It’s a complete meal by itself. They also don’t scrimp on ingredients. The mix was tasty, flavourful and “malinamnam”.

I eat it alone but I also love pairing it with KFC’s Hotshots/Hot and Crispy and Coleslaw. Heaven!

6 alternating layers of chocolate cake and chocolate ganache, topped with chocolate rosette and white chocolate slabs.

When I asked a staff what else was good aside from the Torta and Mucha, she immediately answered, the Chocolate Jubilee P98/slice. It is made especially for chocoholics. Isn’t it obvious already?

The verdict: The chocolate cake was moist but with a lot of lumps that ruined my cake experience. I guessed they forgot to sift the flour.

The chocolate ganache was similar in taste to that of Polly’s but has a coarse texture. It’s hard to like something less when you have tried the best.

More food to try here though, ‘til next time.

Delifrance Secret Santa

I came across their site thru another food blog that I came to know by chance also. I logged-in, supplied them with info like name, bday and e-mail add. I then received a confirmation e-mail that I printed-out and carried to the nearest Delifrance outlet.

I was given two pieces of their Chocolate Chip Biscotti for free, wrapped and tied with a gold ribbon, that they also sell for P240/7pieces.

Their Biscotti was packed with ingredients like nuts and chocolate chips.
It was also the first time that I like a biscotti.

And not only did I receive a gift but I also became a secret santa to someone and
they too received free biscottis from Delifrance.

I saw this on my way to the Food Choices in Glorietta.

5 pieces of fried siopao dough with black bean filling for P75 from Superbowl.

It smelled and tasted like a Man Tau but with black bean filling.

Though the filling tasted okay, I think it needed more of it.
