Tinapayan Sweet Potato Bread

Photobucket
It was like a brioche or an ensaymada.

Photobucket
It's buttery, soft and fluffy. Didn't taste at all of sweet potato but will easily satiate or fill you up.

Photobucket
Heaven when paired with my favorite cheese of the moment, the kesong puti.

Intercontinental Flourless Chocolate Cake

Flourless chocolate cake with toffee bits or sugar crystals topped with Bailey's cream icing and liqueur-soaked strawberry slice.

Photobucket
The cake was dense but soften easy when under or at room temperature.

It has a bittersweet taste but leaning more on the sweet side, like 3/4 sweet and 1/4 bitter.

Photobucket
It also reminded me of a Tootsie Roll in taste and oftentimes gave the Crunch chocolate bar effect.

Photobucket
The Bailey's cream icing didn't taste alcoholic or with liqueur at all. But it did complement the chocolate cake, and even toned down its sweet effect.

Tinapayan Chocolate Ensaymada

Photobucket
It tasted of brown cow chocolate syrup. Both the filling and the chocolate shavings on top.

Photobucket
Still, it was soft and buttery but not fluffy.

Breadtalk Coconut Kaya

Photobucket
The exterior was like a macaroon, with the crunchy mixture of coconut and sugar glazing the top, while the interior was soft with buttery kaya filling.

Photobucket
But I was not a fan of it. I find it slightly bland for a macaroon bread.

Photobucket
It enticed me to take a bite of its gleaming macaroon-type top, then I was disappointed when it didn't deliver the macaroon taste I was hoping for.

Pan de Manila

Since I love Spanish Bread and anything with monggo, I bought and tried Pan de Manila's version of Spanish Bread and Monggo Ensaymada.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Sadly, both were so dry and with minute fillings. I was really disappointed since their Cheese Pesto Pandesal and Pesto Cheesesticks are moist and delicious.

Tinapayan Ham and Cheese Croissant

Photobucket
Croissant with ham and cheese filling.

Photobucket
Photobucket
It wasn't as flaky and buttery as most of the croissants I tasted/had but it was still okay. The filling though was too minute, especially the cheese.

Tinapayan Cheese Roll

Photobucket
Oval-shaped treat, baked with cheese stick inside.

My mother was the one who ate this first. I gave her a grilled one to try after coming home from Tinapayan.

Photobucket
She said that she liked it more than an ensaymada because the cheese was inside and not outside. You get to taste it more and not mixed with sugar or buttercream that overpower it sometimes.

She also said that it has a creamy, unforgettable aftertaste that will make you crave for more.

Photobucket
I, on the other hand, ate it after a couple of days in the chiller, also grilled.

I didn't like it as much as my mother or my experience wasn't half as good as hers.

The roll was spongy and dry but it does taste good with the slightly caramelized sugar glazing the roll and the melted cheese inside.

Photobucket
When eaten right away, the cheese will melt equally or with neither a solid part, but when grilled after a few days in the chiller, the cheese will not melt all throughout.

I guessed it doesn't do well in the chiller and that it should be eaten right away.

Intercontinental Chocolate Chip Muffin

Photobucket
Soft, moist, pound cake type muffin with almost-golden outer crust and with chocolate chips concentrated on top as well as well-incorporated within.

Photobucket
Similar in taste with Mrs Fields' chocolate chip muffin but way better than S&R's version.

Calamansi Pie

I regularly watch Giada's Weekend Getaway at the Lifestyle Channel even if they were old episodes. I never grow tired of watching it. On one of their episodes in South Beach, Miami, Giada ate at Joe's Stone Crab. She had their bestsellers, the Stone Crab Claws and Key Lime Pie.

She was satisfied with both. And as she ate, she was describing the pie as made with condensed milk, egg yolks and lime. That sounded easy and yummy that I googled the recipe.

I was out of dessert last Wednesday that I tried making one.

Photobucket
It does was easy to make with just a few ingredients. Unfortunately though I wasn't able to buy limes that I used calamansi instead. Also, I cut in half the supposedly amount of lime juice in the recipe. And instead of lime zest I used lemon zest.

I never thought that it would taste good but it did. Right contrast of sweet and sour and creamy and crunch.

Photobucket
This would definitely not be the last time that I'll be making it.

Floating Island

I was at Makati Med last Thursday and I happened to pass by Floating Island. Since I know that I'll be waiting long for my check-up I bought an Oatmeal Bar P35 to entertain as well as satiate me.

Photobucket
Oatmeal cookie bar topped with chocolate.

Very chewy and sticky oatmeal bar, with the chocolate sticking to my teeth in my every bite.

Photobucket
I was surprised that I like it. It was reminiscent of a Revel Bar, with the chocolate and oatmeal. But unlike a revel bar, where the chocolate is swirled in the oatmeal, in here it was put on top. Which was better, since you're sure to taste the chocolate in your every bite.

Photobucket
I can't wait to be back at Makati Med to buy more of this and also to try their Turtle and Chocolate Brownies.

Dezaato Pan Blueberry and Cappuccino

Photobucket
Back at Dezaato Pan last Friday, I bought Blueberry Mo-E for P39.

Photobucket
Photobucket
Photobucket
Sweet bread with blueberry cream cheese filling.

And again like their Ringo Starr, I didn't taste the cream cheese in it but only the mixture of blueberry jam and butter in the filling. And the bread was buttery-soft like a brioche too, like their Bomu Puff, Ryoushi Oishi and Ringo Starr.

Photobucket
I also redeemed my free cappuccino that day that I gave to my mother since I don't drink coffee.

Photobucket
According to her it tasted weird. She can't explain how weird, just that it tasted of something aside from the usual coffee, milk and cinnamon. But two customers were very satisfied with their cappuccino, even praising the staff at the counter about it. So I guess to each his own.

Mexicali

When I was craving last week for something mexican, I chose to dine at nowhere else but in Mexicali in Makati.

I ordered Chicken Enchilada with Mexican Rice and Salad for P175.

Photobucket
Baked filled tortillas covered with salsa ranchera, cheese and sour cream.

Photobucket
The tortilla was soft, the chicken filling was tender, flaky, well-seasoned and more than enough for the tortilla wrap. Also, the sour cream enhanced the overall taste of the dish. And the rice and salsa were both seasoned just right.

Photobucket
I don't think I will be satisfied with just one, I would want to eat it several times a week.

Photobucket
For dessert I had the Butterscotch Pie P75, a family recipe of the owner of Mexicali.

Photobucket
Caramel/butterscotch filled pie topped with spiked toasted meringue.

The spiked meringue was reminiscent of a baked alaska. I love the caramel/butterscotch filling but not the dry and hard pie crust. It was rock-hard that I wasn't able to bite thru it.

KAYA RESTAURANT

I maybe a late bloomer in the koreanovela scene. It was only this month that the koreanovela craze has caught on me.

After watching the Lovers (my fave), Save The Last Dance (another fave), Spring Waltz (love the theme song), BOF and Only You, I was craving for a Korean meal. Good thing though that my entire family was attuned in my craving.

There were no Korean resto in the mall aside from Kaya, so that's where we ate.

The Dolsot Bibimbap P205, is a dish with rice topped with assorted vegetables and egg in a hot stone bowl.

Photobucket
A complete meal for some but not for me. I am more a meat person that I wanted more meat than rice. It did taste of california maki though, weird but delicious, especially the burnt part at the bottom.

Photobucket
The Kalbi Gui P175, are marinated short ribs. (sorry, no photos)

They were cooked just right, sweet and tender.

Jajang Myun P180, are noodles with stir-fried bean paste.

Photobucket
This was loved by all. Although there were more toppings than noodles, the left-over toppings can be paired with the bibimbap.

The Talangkanin Meal or Aligue Bibimbap P220 (from the abs-cbn series Only You), has talangka, kanin, shrimps, carrots and mushroom.

Photobucket
It may looked smaller in serving than the Dolsot Bibimbap but a little goes a long way in this case.

This can fill you up easily, even my sister who eats a minimum of 2 cups of rice per meal has left-overs. Maybe it's the talangka that satiates.

The Lychee Shake P65, was very refreshing and sweetened just right. It was my first time to order this shake but I finished it up to the last drop.

Photobucket
The Japchae has cellophane noodles, assorted veggies and beef in sesame oil.

Photobucket
This was just okay for me.

By the way, if you ask they'll serve you a free soup, like this.

Photobucket
Just a clear soup but tasty nonetheless.
