Don Henrico's

For my son's birthday lunch, we chose Don Henrico's in Glorietta.

We ordered the Mushroom Soup, Baked Mussels, Nachos, BBQ Buffalo Wings, Carbonara, Lasagna, Pizza Bianca and Cheeseburger Pizza.

We liked everything.

Cabalen and Cafe Mary Grace

It was my mother's special day and my sister and her bf were in town to celebrate it with us.

We had homemade beef burgers and kesong puti sandwiches for breakfast, got ready and then it was off to Cabalen for lunch.

We availed of their eat-all-you-can Filipino buffet. Drinks were not included in the buffet, I just had house water while my mother had Sago't Gulaman, my sister had Green Mango Shake and her bf, Buco Shake.

There were 3 choices for soups that noon, Kalabasa, Sinigang and Bulalo. I had Kalabasa. It was good.

There were many rice, noodles, salads and viands choices but as I'm allergic to shrimps and I wanted to stay away from pork and I just had beef that morning I just chose Beringhe, Pancit Canton, Chicken Adobo, Dinuguan (just the sauce, which btw was very good), Tofu Sisig, Crispy Kangkong, Breaded Dilis (not that good, were a little cold) and Grilled Bangus. For desserts they have Kakanins like Maja Blanca, Palitaw (good), Biko, Leche Flan (which they will give you upon request), Fresh Fruits (Banana, Pineapple), Ginataang Halo-Halo, Minatamis na Saging and Halo-Halo.

As I love Gulaman and Sago, I had a lot of Halo-Halo and filled them mostly with Gulaman and Sago. I had the traditional Filipino Halo-Halo with evaporated milk and also the Thai version with coconut milk. I love Halo-Halo so much that I just had one plate of the buffet and filled the rest of my tummy space with desserts (mostly Halo-Halo).

We walked off the calories by shopping for clothes, accessories, food and home and bedroom accessories. We were so engrossed with shopping that we forgot to stop for dinner and only remembered it 30 minutes to the mall's closing. We chose Cafe Mary Grace.

As soon as we sat down we were told that our orders will be their last orders for the day.

My sister chose Carbonara, Mango Bene and Sangria, while me and the rest had the Mushroom Cream, Chocolate Cake, Black Velvet and Soda (as when we were giving our Peach Tea orders, we were told that the kitchen's already closed:-( )

The mushroom cream was so good, as in really, really good, that my sister even regretted ordering the Carbonara. Thinking about it, I might have one again this week :-)

As the mall's already closed by the time we finished our pasta. We just had the cakes to go.

At home when I ate the chocolate cake, I found it dry and the caramel filling too strong (almost taste like coffee), but when I had it again the next day, the filling was just the way I want it ( subtle caramel taste), the ganache fudgey and the cake a little bit moist.

My sister loves the service at Cafe Mary Grace Robinsons Place Manila. She said that they were courteous, know their products and give recommendations ( they even asked our mother if she suffers from palpitations when drinking coffee, as their coffee is very strong, and thus they recommended decaf for our mother) and very accommodating.

Piadina Cappo di Tutti and Carbonara

After watching Bourne Legacy, which I found "bitin", I went to Piadina for my dinner.  Since I was craving for their Carbonara, I ordered that with Cappo di Tutti Pizza.

I initially wanted the Quattro Formaggi, but since I already have a white sauce/creamy pasta, my pizza shouldn't be as creamy or rich.

The Carbonara was very oily, and lacked the salty kick from the bacon and the Parmesan cheese. It wasn't as good as my last taste of it from their Food Choices branch.

*this was just half an order, as I had it to go

The Cappo di Tutti's crust was the same as the bread that comes with their pasta. While the toppings were somewhat scarce for something that boasts of having everything on it. Something in the toppings also tasted off.

Papa John's Carbonara and Bread Sticks

I wanted something with thick-cut fries that I went to Marciano's to look for what's good to eat that's with fries. Choices were chili dog, tuna, burger and chicken. But upon looking at their descriptions, they don't seem that good. Then I remembered that Papa John's has Potato Wedges.

Photobucket

I wanted to order my favorite Chicken and Mushroom Calzone and Potato Wedges, but I decided to try other items. I have been at Papa John's more than four times already, but I haven't tried their other products yet, except the Calzone and Cheese Sticks.

Photobucket

I wanted the Chicken Strips and Potato Wedges but that would be too salty a pair, that I ordered their Carbonara and Bread Sticks instead. I ordered Bread Sticks as they don't serve garlic bread with their pasta.

Photobucket

After 15 minutes the pasta was served. It was kinda bland that I asked for Parmesan cheese. But after a lot of sprinkling it was still bland that I just waited for my Bread Sticks.

Photobucket

After another 10 minutes the Bread Sticks were served. They were over baked, with some bitter parts, but the rest were soft and buttery.

Overall, I was disappointed with my pasta order, that I kept on thinking I should have eaten at CPK instead, my go-to pasta and pizza place, or had my usual Chicken and Mushroom Calzone.

Piadina

Photobucket

I have been ordering their Bologna Set P140 for many years now (around 8), but it’s only now that I blog about it.

Photobucket

A Bologna Set consists of a pasta, piadina of your choice (limited choices only), half grilled mozzarella and iced tea.

I always choose carbonara for my pasta and either Italian sausage or chicken for my piadina.

Photobucket

Piadina is a thin Italian flatbread, usually made with white flour, lard (or olive oil), salt and water. Filled with a variety of cheeses, cold cuts and vegetables & also of sweet fillings such as nutella and jams (Wikipedia).

Photobucket

Piadina’s version makes use of whole wheat flour for a healthier piadina.

It’s still as good as ever. Creamy and al dente carbonara with lots of ham, perfectly-grilled mozzarella, with just enough cheese, though much better with anchovies sauce. The only thing that didn’t impress me that day was the piadina. I ordered the Piadina con Salsiccia Italiana or piadina with Italian sausage and mozzarella.

Photobucket

Their piadina that day was slightly dry and their Italian sausage filling needed more sauce and a little more mozzarella cheese (you can never have enough mozzarella).

Still, I enjoyed eating everything and would definitely order the bologna set again. And with the P140 price, I definitely got more than I paid for.
