Kozui and Banapple

Went to QC to have my hair colored and cut. Afterwards, I went to Kozui to have my favorite Anmitsu. That afternoon though, they don't have the Taro, so I just had the Mango. I still prefer the Taro, cos their mangoes were not sweet.

I also went to Banapple and ordered the Bacon Fried Chicken Steaks with Milk'shroom Gravy and Yo Ho Hope! Cheesecake to go. Both were good.

P.S. For lunch that day I had the Spicy Chicken Fillet with Brown Rice Pilaf of Pancake House. It was a very dry dish that I didn't enjoy eating it. 

Ayala Triangle 2

Every visit at Ms B's also means a visit at the restos lining Ayala Triangle. As usual I have to buy something, a lot, to take home.

I went first inside Bfast hoping to find their White Chocolate Cheesecake or Quezo de Bola Cheesecake. Unfortunately all cheesecakes were sold out that afternoon.

Sad as I was, I said to myself that there's still Banapple. I ordered a slice each of the Banoffee Pie (P85), Banana Starry-Berry Custard Cheesecake (P110) and White Chocolate Truffle Berry Cheesecake (P100). I was also hoping to have the Praline Banana Cream Pie but it wasn't available, and the Warm Shoofly Pecan Pie ( made of potatoes ), but the customer in front of me told her friend that it wasn't good, that made me backed out.



The Banoffee Pie was good, just because it has bananas, caramel, whipped cream and a not too oily pie crust.

I was back at ayala triangle after my late lunch at Ms B's and my mani-pedi at The Nail Boutique, it was already dinnertime by then. I would have wanted the Salmon/Unagi Combo of Pepper Lunch + their Summer Cooler (I so wanted to win the flip camera) for dinner, but I also wanted to try something new. So I just ordered one of my fave in Pepper Lunch, their Spicy Tuna Shake Salad (P99) to go, then off to Ayala Triangle I went.



I bought something in almost each resto, like the Quezo de Bola Cheesecake (P118) at Bfast. I even bought two slices now. I know that it is not the best cheesecake, that it was far from the taste of a good cheesecake like that of Ms B's Manila Cheesecake, but I still like it. I like that some part of it were custardy instead of firm. I also like the brittle on top, which were cashews and not pili nuts ( w/c I thought before).




I then bought Banana Praline Pie (P90) from Banapple. I was to buy Banoffee Pie and Cherry something cake, but was able to restrain myself and just bought the Praline.



Its crust was not oily like the rest of their cheesecakes and pies. It's also different from the other/usual pies which use pastry crust, this made use of a cookie crust. The filling was banana and a very thin/runny custard, the top is cream and a very fine streusel topping.



The streusel and the crust taste the same.

I decided to have dinner at Bonchon. But not their chicken. I had it a lot of times already. This time I had one of their new products, the Fish Tacos. You can have just one piece (P75) or you can have two (value meal -P145 (2pcs) and P95 (1pc)), and with drinks or without.



Their Fish Taco was the soft kind, which uses tortilla bread. It also has breaded fish, raw shredded cabbage, tomatoes and a sort of thousand island dressing or something to that effect.




I like the breaded fish. It was so soft and fresh, and just lightly battered. It was such a contrast to their Chicken Chops, which although delicious can sometimes be over fried. I also like the dressing. I just don't fancy the use of raw cabbage. It was too rough/hard and there's a lot of it in there. As in. Overflowing.




I already know what I would order next time, their Fish Ricebox. An order comes with 3 pieces of breaded fish and rice for P125. I also would like to try their Shrimp Ricebox. And the White Chocolate Cheesecake of Bfast, which is always sold out by lunchtime every day, or so I were told by one of their servers.

Banapple Pies

I guess I'm addicted to their Chicken Pie P50.


Shortbread/doughy crust with flaky and very tender chicken filling. Though not as creamy as some people said but will still melt in your mouth in tenderness. They are huge and filling, more like thrice the size of Conti's.



A couple of days after my first bite of their Chicken Pie, I was back there again and bought a couple of Chicken Pie plus their Tuna Pie and Cheese and Mushroom Pie, all at P50 each.

In the Tuna Pie, the distinction between the crust and the filling was prominent than that in the Chicken Pie. It was slightly salty too. This was my least favorite of the three pies.



The Cheese and Mushroom Pie was also good but not as good as their Chicken Pie. Since button mushrooms are flavorless/bland (that's why it's Jamie Oliver's pet peeve. He thinks it's all chemicals), the tartness of the cheese and the sweet doughy crust are the only flavor you'll taste.




I don't know why, but even if their Cheese and Mushroom Pie and Tuna Pie are not that good, I still always buy a couple of them every time I'm at Banapple (which is twice a week). Maybe they have grown on me or maybe they are just plain filling and come in handy when I don't know what to eat and am tired of thinking what to eat.

Banapple

I have long wanted to try their cakes, especially their best seller the Banoffee Pie P70.



Since I am not a fan of fruits in my cakes/desserts, I don’t usually order banoffee pie. But since it’s their best seller I gotta try it out.

A slice is huge, with graham crust, bananas, toffee filling and lots of cream, topped with generous amounts of chocolate shavings.


Everything here was thick. Thick layer of crust, thick slices of bananas, thick coating of toffee and thick layer of cream.

I can definitely say that it has replaced Starbucks Banoffee Pie as the best in my list. Why you asked, because it’s bigger, cheaper and tastier.
