White Chocolate Cookies and Cream

Cajun Roll

The roll was so good that I bought a few more to go.

Steak Fries

This is with truffle oil. And anything with truffle is good.

Dean and Deluca

As soon as I've read on someone's blog that they are already open, I trooped all the way to Rockwell to try them.

There were a lot of people inside and outside when I got there, but I only waited for about 5 minutes to get a seat.

There were a lot I wanted to try, but I just settled for their Chef's Special of The Burger, Dark Chocolate Chip Milkshake, Dark Chocolate Salted Caramel Cookie, Dark Salted Caramel Cake and Creme Brulee Croissant

All my orders were good, that I can't wait to come back to try the rest of what's on their menu.

La Dolce Vita

As soon as the holy week ended I was back at Power Plant Mall/Rockwell again.

I so wanted to watch Beastly starring Vanessa Hudgens and my crush since Wild Child, Alex Pettyfer.

I was just in time for the 130PM screening, but since I still don't have snacks to eat inside, I chose to watch on the 340PM screening instead.

Photobucket

My snacks were my favorites. The Truffle Fries of Bistecca and the Chicken Parmesan Sliders of Astralis. For dessert was the Blueberry Muffin of Santis and for drinks, I was able to sneak-in a bottle of Perrier Lemon.

After the movie I had a snack again of another favorite, Sango's Maccha Azuki Cornflake Shake.

Santis Blueberry Muffin

I still have a lot of time to spare before Beastly starts, that I spent a
quarter of it at Santis delicatessen.

I saw a lot of stuff/food that I would love to buy like the Spinach and Mushroom Ravioli, Gnocchi, Cranberries/Blueberries/Raspberries, Amaretto Cookies, Shortbread with Macadamia, Biscuits with Egg, Butter Cookies, Parmesan Cheese and Mascarpone, but I know that I won't be using nor eating it until a month from now, that I steered myself to the direction of baked goods.

I wanted to buy a Plain Bagel with Cream Cheese and Turkey Ham, but in order to do so, I have to buy an entire package of Plain Bagels which I doubt I could finish. The Cheesecake and Carrot Cake looked plain yet expensive, that I just ordered a Blueberry Muffin to try.

It was moist and sweet that I finished it right away. Looking forward to more muffin flavors from them soon.

Bistecca

Photobucket

One evening, just out of the blue, I thought of eating Truffle Fries at Bistecca. I immediately googled their menu, looking for what else to eat aside from the fries and steak. I found out that their Southern BBQ Prawns were good. So I fell asleep already knowing what to order the next day.

I also found out that you should make reservations when you dine there at night, especially a friday night, because they get full easily. They are not also open all day/night. Their schedule is basically 11-3PM and 6-11PM.

I woke up before lunch the next day and went to Bistecca with an empty tummy.
The first thing that struck me even before I could ask for their menu was their cute napkin folding. When my curiosity passed, I called on the waiter and gave my order.
I ordered the Southern BBQ Prawns with Toast (P350) and the Truffle Fries (P220).

While waiting for my order, a mini plate of wheat toast and compounded butter with garlic were put on my table.

Photobucket

I like the taste of the butter and also liked that the toast were wheat.

Then came my Truffle Fries and Southern BBQ Prawns simultaneously. I like my food arriving at the same time. I don't like it to arrive one after another coz I can't budget how much of a certain food I should eat to make room for the others.

Photobucket

Also at that moment, the waiter lighted the votive candle on my table. Afterwards, I smelled gasoline. I suspected it was the candle, but it seemed something nearer. As I sniffed and sniffed I found out that the gasoline smell came from the fries. The Truffle Fries may smell like gasoline but definitely don't taste like it.

I have eaten a lot of food infused or supposedly with truffle oil, but this was the first time I smelled it. Some said that anything with truffle oil is expected to be expensive but I don't think that the Truffle Fries of Bistecca is expensive. I think it is worthy of its price. And an order is more than enough for one. They might look not that much but you'll get full just by eating a little, maybe it has something to do with the truffle oil.

Photobucket

I even brought some Truffle Fries home and ate it cold the next day. Well, I also like it cold.

Photobucket

And then it was time to taste the BBQ Prawns. The first thing I noticed was how succulent the prawns were. They were succulent, with a sweet BBQ sauce, that kind of reminded me of adobo. A combination that made that four (4) pieces of prawns enough to satisfy my hunger for brunch. Also the wheat toast it came with were the same as the complimentary toast served beforehand.

I was satisfied with my Bistecca experience. Good food, good service and good ambiance = great experience

Photobucket

Next time I can just come by for their Truffle Fries and drinks if I am not that hungry or if I just wanted to hang, or order Fish and Chips or Roast Chicken if I am hungry. But definitely, I'll always order their Truffle Fries.

Baker's Dozen

I can’t contain my excitement for the Baker’s Dozen in Powerplant Mall, upon reading of it on Manila Standard, that I immediately got dressed and went to the first day of the fair.

There were the “sophomores” (second year on the fair), Iya’s Pastillas, Christina’s Kitchen, Sweet Life by Ange, Mary Grace, Kitchen’s Best, Saltine, San Lo’s, Costa Brava, and the “freshmen” (first- timers), Patisserie Caroline, Gayuma, The Cru Kitchen, Joyce's, The Russian Cookie House , Estrel’s and Empire Cheesecake.

Of the returnees, only Mary Grace has new offerings, like the Chocolate Mousse and Mango Melba (both are not their exact names). The Mango Melba has the same vibe as Conti’s Mango Bravo.

Of the new-comers, my number 1 fave is Joyce's. I'm now addicted to their Rhum Butter Cake P80/small bundt.

rhumbuttertop"
Butter cake on its own is already good but with rhum, much better.

rhumbuttertilt"
The Rhum Butter Cake of Joyce is buttery soft and with a kick. It’s like heaven and hell on your tongue.

I went back to the booth a couple of times to hoard on this. I can’t seem to get enough of it.

Another must-try from Joyce's is their Portobello Mushroom Dip in EVOO (10oz) P300.

joycedips"
It is very tasty and satiating for a dip.

Second is Empire Cheesecake. They sell macaroons and cheesecake lollipops (cheesecake in lollipop form, on a stick without the graham crust ) with variety of flavours. Plus their packaging is really pretty.

empire"
I bought their Black and White Cheesecake Lollipop P30. It is cheesecake lollipop coated with dark and white chocolate ganache.

chzcakelolli"
chzcakelolliopen"
The cheesecake was creamy, tangy and sweet. It tasted of pure cream cheese or cheesecake without gelatin or extenders. It also has a condensed milk sweetness to it brought by the white chocolate which was contrasted by the bittersweet taste of the dark chocolate, YUM!

chzcakelollibite"

I have also tried their Cookies and Cream Macaroon and it was very tasty too.

Third is Patisserie Caroline.

patisserie"
I like their Carrot Walnut Loaf P220 because it’s moist and packed with carrots and walnuts, and also their Oreo Fudge and Peppermint Fudge Brownies P150 (box of 8) . The Peppermint Fudge Brownie tasted like an after eight cake and the Oreo was like chocolate overload because it has a strong chocolate taste.

Fourth is Estrel’s.

estrel's"
I love their Caramel Cake which unfortunately was already sold-out when I arrived. Good thing though, because I was able to try and liked their Food For The Gods P360 (20pcs) .

It’s tightly packed with nuts and raisins and was incredibly moist and delicious. I just wish they will sell miniature version of their Caramel Cake because I can’t finish the whole cake in a day, or rather I can but I won’t.

Another fave is The Russian Cookie House.

russiancookiehouse"
I like their Russian Mini Cookie. It was very light and will almost melts in your mouth. It also has a surprise crunch on the center from the walnut. And also their Mini Pistachio Cookies, just because I love pistachios and chocolate. Both cookies are sold for P380 for 65 pieces.

Well, Baker’s Dozen is really something to look forward to every weekend. It’s like heaven for a dessert lover like myself. I just wish that Kitchen's Best will bring more of their Banana Toffee Pie. I wasn’t able to buy one because it was already sold-out when I arrived. I’m also looking forward on seeing, tasting and buying from Polly’s (I really miss their chocolate cake, orange poppy seed cake and bread pudding) and Karen’s Kitchen (maybe they’ll bring with them BTS, Xanadu and Green Tea Frozen Brazo and will sell them cheaper than in UCC =p) A foodaholic can dream.

Here are the booths from the Fair and the must-try according to me :-)

gayuma"
GAYUMA - Their sweets are just okay tasting.

christine's kitchen"
CHRISTINA'S KITCHEN - I love their Carrot Cake, it's moist and delicious, and also their Bread Pudding, which has the taste and consistency of a leche flan.

saltine"
SALTINE - I like their Mushroom and Spinach Patties and also their Lemon Squares, they are creamy and tangy.

sweetlife"
SWEET LIFE by ANGE - Their Frozen Brazo de Mercedes (Sweet Surrender) is a must-try.

sanlos"
SAN LO'S - I don't like their empanadas =(

kitchen'sbest"
KITCHEN'S BEST - Their brownies and bars are delicious. I must yet to try their infamous Banana Toffee Pie.
