Domino’s Brownie Squares

Chocolate brownie with chocolate dip for only P85.


It is moist and gooey. But since I had it to go, they wrapped it in foil just after baking, thus making the brownie sticked to the foil. Still, I was able to enjoy it.


I love its crunchy sides and top. I just find the chocolate dip too sweet.

Theobroma Belgian Chocolate Cake

Chocolate cake topped with Belgian chocolate ganache for just P42 or 3 for 125.


Though not as moist and gooey as Polly’s, it is still better than Hungry Pac’s version.


A good alternative when you can’t have Polly’s Chocolate Cake.



Btw, they also sell cakes in Perfection (rich belgian chocolate cake with butterscotch filling), Midnight (bitter, dark chocolate) and Hazelnut Praline flavors, that come in designer boxes.



Also available are belgian chocolate crunchies, chocolate beans, dark & milk chocolates and mint & orange sticks.

Holy Cow

Last week as I was scouring the Midtown Wing of Robinsons Place Ermita of a good resto to eat, I came across Holy Cow.


Looking at their menu, there’s quite a lot to choose from. Since I’m not up for their steaks that night, but still want some meat, I ordered the Biggie Kiddie Cheesy Burger P180 from their Kiddie Meal. Allegedly, it was also their best seller, ordered by mostly adults.


Quarter pound of juicy beef patty, with chunks of cheddar cheese inside, dressed with lettuce, tomatoes and honey-mustard dressing. It is served with potato ribbons and mozzarella-stuffed croquettes. It also comes with choices of 12oz White Grape Tea, Citrus Black Tea or soft drinks for beverage.


The patty has this strong grilled taste and aroma. It was succulent and juicy with melted cheese oozing from within. It was also a little bit bland, but with all the works (honey-mustard dressing, the veggies and the buttered bun), it was delicious and light (on the tummy). Even the bun has grill marks and has this intense smoky aroma.


The potato ribbons is their version of potato chips. It was just okay. What I like more is their mozzarella-stuffed croquettes. It was soft and creamy, with a little tartness from the cheese.


The White Grape Tea is made of white tea with grape juice and fresh grapes. It was a cross between a champagne and red wine in taste.


Since I always have room for desserts, I had the Caramel Boston Pudding P95, also their best seller dessert.

Layers of sponge-like pudding cake filled with vanilla custard and topped with caramel glaze.


It is served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce.


On its own the pudding was light, with the caramel sauce it was delicious, and with the vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce, it was very sweet, rich and creamy. What a perfect way to end a cheesy burger meal.


Overall, I was satisfied with the food, the ambiance and the service. I can’t wait to try their other dishes soon, may be steaks this time.

Cafe Mediterranean

To end my day of sampling & buying at the Baker's Dozen, I had dinner of Kofta Burger P149 at Cafe Mediterranean.


Kofta is a meatball of lamb and beef from Greece.

Cafe Med's Kofta Burger is served on a grilled and buttered panini bun, with lettuce, onions, tomatoes and garlic sauce. An order comes with fries.


The kofta patty was thick, juicy and flavorful. It was not as oily as traditional beef patties but nevertheless extremely filling.


I ate mine with lots and lots of their garlic sauce, YUM!

Wild Ginger

As if all the cakes and pastries of the Baker's Dozen wasn't enough, I also bought an order of Sticky Toffee Pudding P115 from Wild Ginger.


As I have written countless times, I love puddings (bread and bread & butter).

Wild Ginger's version is with caramel and cream sauce.


The pudding itself was not as dense as Myron's or as sweet as Mezzaluna's.

It's in the middle of being dense and airy, more like Baker's Fair version but moister.


Without the sauce, the pudding was slightly bland. But with the caramel sauce, it was delicious.

Konbini

Since Konbini is just a stone’s throw away from Angel’s Kitchen I didn’t pass up the chance to visit it.


Looking around the store, 3 things caught my eyes. The Chocolate Mochi, the Edamame and the Kani Cream Korokke. Of the 3, I only bought 2 to try. The Edamame P150/pack and the Kani Cream Korokke P45/pc.



I like edamame since the first time I tried it at Sakae Sushi. Since not all Japanese restos offer this, I immediately bought a pack to cook at home.
Edamame or baby soybeans can be cooked by boiling or steaming. It is eaten by opening the beans and just eating the seeds inside.



It is of course good, low calorie, fiber -rich, contains protein & omega-3 fatty acids and a high source of vitamin A, B and calcium.


The Kani Cream Korokke is a croquette of kani and cream.



It has the Japanese smell prevalent in Japanese fried food. And I know that this may sound weird but I can compare it to a creamy pasta in taste and texture but with crunch from the breading.
