Macau Eats - Yummy House

macauyummyhouse
Before starting our Macau Tour, we asked our tour guide Aou on where to eat delicious but affordable food for lunch. He brought us to the Yummy House.

Since I have a toothache that whole trip (until now), I wanted something soft. I was set on the Regular French Toast when I saw something more appealing being served on another customer. I asked our tour guide to get me the exact same thing. That French Toast was not on the menu by the way.

macautoast
French toast with peanut butter filling, topped with a slab of butter that melts easily when you spread it, and drowned with maple syrup.

I like every bits of it. From the bread used, which tasted like a japanese bread, up to the maple syrup. My reaction to the french toast enticed my mother and sister to order one even after their full meal of soup, chicken and rice.

A few days after my HK/Macau trip, I have learned that the French Toast I had at Yummy House is the French Toast – HK Style HK$16. Allegedly it’s how they like their french toast, with peanut butter and lots and lots of maple syrup, double YUM!

Shakey's

shagarlic
Garlic and cheddar cheese on a thin-crust.

Better than Pizza Hut’s Sausage and Cheese. Taste good, salty but not garlicky, which could have been better. Also, the crust was not as thin and crispy as I remembered it to be.

garslice
It didn’t pass the test of a good pizza, which is, still good for breakfast the next day or even when eaten cold. It’s just good when eaten right away.

I had mine to go and when it’s time for me to eat it, it wasn’t good anymore. It was like eating a fake garlic bread. Bigoli’s breadsticks are way better.

I was disappointed since I was craving for this for such a long time.

Baker's Passion yet again

Before my HK/Macau trip, I did some last minute shopping and errands. I also dined at Baker’s Passion solo.

That night I ordered the Five-Cheese Panini P118 and the Panizza P195.
Panizza is strips of prosciutto pizza, rolled, with arugula leaves (but just lettuce that night) and served with balsamic vinaigrette.

The Panizza was very good. Mix of sweet and sour from the balsamic, slight bitterness from the lettuce, saltiness of the prosciutto, tartness of the cheese and crunch from the dough.

paniclose
It has a chewy but thin and crunchy crust with lean prosciutto. And I love how sweet and tangy the balsamic was.

It was hard eating it rolled, ‘coz it opens up fast + it’s big for a single bite.

The Five-Cheese Panini has white cheese, mozzarella, cheddar, gouda and parmesan. It is served with a few pieces of thick-cut fries.

paninitop3
The prominent cheddar taste/sharpness of the cheddar overpowered the other cheeses.

From the cheeses, my favourite was the white cheese. It was creamy and foamy.

paniniside
I like the white cheese oozing from the sides, as well as the rosemary foccacia used, which added an herby taste to the sandwich. I wasn’t able to taste the saltiness of the parmesan nor the mozzarella, but was able to see the “cheese floss” effect of it.

The thick-cut fries were perfectly-seasoned, complemented by the mayo-mustard dip.

I also like the mini salad (lettuce and tomatoes) it was served with and most especially the balsamic vinaigrette that was tangy and sweet at the same time.

Who knew that they also serve great-tasting meals. I would definitely go back to try their Bouillabaise and Cheesy Potatoes and may be their other paninis and pastas.

Baker's Dozen II

From this week’s Baker’s Dozen, I discovered another offering from Mary Grace, their Black Velvet Cake.

Last week they introduced the Mango Bene (similar to Conti’s Mango Bravo in taste) and Almond Mousse (like a chocolate mousse).

The Black Velvet is their take on the popular Red Velvet Cake. Instead of using food coloring, they used dark chocolate in their cake, which I thought to be a better way.

Christina’s Kitchen also introduced this week their Vienna Torte P130.

A cross between a sponge cake and a butter cake, with milk and nuts or a creamier version of butter cake.

This was good. It tasted like it has white chocolate in it (but doesn’t), which made me like it more.

From Joyce’s, I discovered the Chewy Cashew Butterscotch Bar P13.

They reminded me of the cashew balls sold in supermarkets and specialty shops in taste. Since I like
the cashew balls, I definitely like this one too.

Jollibee

jb-alohabox
I can't remember the last time I had the Amazing Aloha P82 of Jollibee. Back then, it only has pineapple, lettuce and cheese.

jb-aloha
Now, Jollibee's Amazing Aloha has 2 beef patties, lettuce, pineapple, bacon and melted cheese.

jb-alohasolo
I like it. It's cheesy, salty and sweet.

jb-alohaclose
Another from Jollibee is the Jolly Spaghetti.

jb-spag
Their version is my favorite spaghetti. It's sad that they removed the Party Spaghetti on their menu. I remembered last year, when we often order it for delivery and take-out.

jb-spagclose
This is how I want my spaghetti, sweet and with lots of sausage and ham.

And for dessert, Black Forest Sundae P35, another new item from Jollibee.

jb-blackforest
Soft-serve vanilla ice cream with brownie bits, drizzled with chocolate syrup and finished with a cherry on top.

No prominent liqueur taste like that of a black forest cake. No similarity with the cake except from the cherry on top. Still it is good, especially the brownie bits.

Kitchen’s Best

kb-banana
Good thing that Kitchen’s Best brought a lot of their mini Banana Toffee Pie P85 at the Baker’s Dozen. After almost a year of just dreaming about it, I got to try it at last.

Layers of banana, cream, chocolate and toffee on an oreo cookie crust and drizzled with caramel.

kb-banana2
I can say that I’m a little bit disappointed with the taste of the pie. It wasn’t as strong as I hoped it would be. Starbucks’ version is better than theirs.
