Urban Fringe

I bought an Urban Fringe deal of digiperm, back massage and foot spa from Ensogo. I made an appointment for last Thursday. I arrived 30 minutes ahead of my schedule but were entertained immediately. I were guided to my seat and they started right away with the treatment. I added pedicure and manicure and were given an additional 10% discount.

I regret adding that services as it was only yesterday morning that I noticed blood coming out of the side of my big toe. The pedicurist apparently cut a part of my skin. I thought last Thursday, when I felt pain, that my skin was just too sensitive. It still hurt up until now, but I already put antibiotic ointment on it and will put some again later. I would never go back to that salon anymore. 

After the treatment that lasted for 3 hours and the one hour commute to Lucky Chinatown Mall, I was famished that I wanted sort of a big meal. I had Shakey's Bunch of Lunch and Happy Lemon's Matcha Adzuki Smoothie with extra rocksalt and pearls.

Today I was craving for Wendy's Bacon Mushroom Melt, Fries, Iced Tea and Frosty, that I had them delivered.

MOA and S&R

I met up with a friend last Tuesday. We're supposed to meet November 30 to watch Sarah and Gerald's movie but decided to make it a day earlier as we both know that a non-working holiday means more people in the mall and cinema.

We had an early lunch first at Pepper Lunch. She had the Beef Pepper Rice with extra meat and cheese (my recommendation), Mashed Potato and Coke, while I had my usual Salmon Pepper Rice with extra fish, cheese and curry, and Hot Green Tea.

After our lunch we did a few minutes of walking and then it was dessert time. Since she haven't yet tried Sebastian's, I recommended we had dessert there.

I would have wanted to try the Black and White Waffle or the Ice Cream Pizza but decided otherwise as I was still a little bit full from lunch.

We both ordered Chilly Burgers. I had the Midnight Truffle while she had the Fudge Truffle. She liked it a  lot. I do too. Always.




After dessert, we went out of Mall of Asia to shop and eat some more at S&R.



My friend knows me well when she said I know what you'll fill your cart with the most. And she was right. I filled it mostly with food.

There were a lot of new baked items there. Some from Sugar Bowl Bakery, like Madeleines, Petite Brownie Bites and Petite Palmiers. But I was won over by the brownie bites, as I have read in one of Kris Aquino's tweets that Jed Madela hand-carried her favorite brownie bites from Canada, although this brownie bites are from San Francisco and not Canada, but still a brownie bite is a brownie bite. It's also written there that it has no trans fat and no cholesterol and at only 130 calories a piece.





You can enjoy it right out of the container or warmed-up. I did both.



Right out of the container I found it very sweet and uninteresting, but when warmed it almost tasted like a lava/molten cake. It sure does go well with an ice cream.

I also bought another new find, the Hazelnut Truffle Muffin. As I love trying anything with the word truffle, I bought a pack of four even without sampling it first.



At home I first sampled the one with oozing hazelnut truffle. The hazelnut truffle tasted like a Ferrero chocolate. But the amount of truffle in the muffin wasn't enough for its size. You'll be left with a lot of just plain  tasting chocolate muffin.



And after filling my cart with some more food and unnecessary stuff, it was now time for dinner.
My friend ordered the Beef Baked Roll, while I had the Chicken Baked Roll and Fries.





I love how cheesy the baked roll was. I just don't like the bacon inside, which had this weird taste and smell. While the fries were very thick, had this fresh potato taste and just lightly salted. I just don't like the taste of the mayo on the condiments area, and also the too tangy tartar sauce for the baked roll.

Overall, I had a great time. What a great day spent with a friend, filled with a lot of shopping and food. How I wish every day can be like this. Just eating every thing you like, doing things you love to do and spending time with the people you love. Just having fun.

P.S. Just after paying for my purchases and on my way to the dining area, I saw their display cases of baked goods on sale per piece and slice. What! I should have seen it before to sample first the pastries before buying bulk of it inside. Next time. Better late than never. They even sell cheesecakes by the slice, and also muffins per piece. And cookies, and a whole lot more.

I changed the onion rings to fries and the drink to a Buco Pandan Cooler for an additional 16 pesos.

I liked everything. It was indeed a complete meal (although not the healthy kind) for someone who likes fries with almost everything. And the cooler drink doubles up as a dessert too.

Ms B's Tuckshop

I saw their ongoing promo with Muraito and I got curious. Who wouldn't? With such a unique name and a good-looking burger on the ad. Anyone would be curious. I googled the name and came across different blogs featuring them.

I didn't buy the deal at Muraito though, because I didn't understand the mechanics that much, plus I could only avail them starting April 8, and I don't think I can wait that long.

I came to the Tuckshop prepared, with the knowledge of what I want to order. Buffalo Chicken Burger (P185), Cajun Fries (P65) and Manila Cheesecake (195).




The Singaporean chef/owner was the one who welcomed me to the resto/tuckshop. He even explained to me their menu. That their fries are hand-cut, once fried and has no artificial flavorings. They weren't processed like the fries of fast food restaurants. Their iced tea too was from tea bags and infused with blueberry something. He told me that it is a must-try, but since I am off caffeine, I declined. Sayang. He also told me that they even make their own catsup/ketchup.


Back to my orders. The burger and the fries came simultaneously, followed by the cheesecake.


The Cajun Fries were crispy, slightly salty and not as spicy as you would expect it would, based on its name.


The Buffalo Chicken Burger was thick, smelled divine, full of chicken meat, and bursting with Cajun-like flavor. I got the standard level of spiciness, but you can request for a higher level of spice.

I rarely finish a burger, because more often, it has more bread/bun than meat/patty or the ratio of bun to patty is 3:1, and I am a certified meat eater. But with Ms B's I was able to finish the entire burger, it was full of meat, rather it has more chicken meat than bread/bun. I love.

I even told them that I love their Buffalo Chicken Burger and would definitely come back for more of it. I also told them that I hope they'll add a fish burger to their menu. I were told that it was part of their original menu but was dropped because the owner got busy, but eventually they will add it to their menu. Hopefully soon, when the owner's not busy anymore.


The Manila Cheesecake as I were told were named Manila because the ingredients are sourced locally, even the crust.

It is drizzled with mango syrup and with a yema surprise somewhere in the middle.

This too smelled divine and was very good. In between airy and thick and in between sweet and tart. I suggest that if you order the whole shebang (burger, fries and milkshake/drinks) that you share your Manila Cheesecake with someone, cos even something this good can be too much and too rich.





The interior of the Tuckshop was rugged, more like a car wash/garage type of place, with distressed furnitures (tables and chairs), unpainted walls, cement floors and a blackboard for a menu.



BTW, Tuck Shop is a British term for a small, food-selling retailer according to Wikipedia. In New South Wales the term is interchangeable with the word canteen.

My Favorite Fries

Are from Chef d'Angelo's.


I really love their fries. I don't eat it alone or with ketchup or mayo, I always eat it with their ranch dressing.

It is my constant order in Chef. I order anything with fries but my usual order is their Sampler 2 (chicken, pizza and fries with ranch).



Just recently I ordered Solo Fries with Ranch Dressing (FRIES P50.00 + RANCH P17.00)


Their fries were eternally crispy and salty, and heaven when dipped on their ranch dressing.

This was my favorite back in the days (2002 or 03). I thought this was so good and delicious. I don't know if I was the one who upped my standards or Chef lowered theirs.



The pizza wasn't as delicious as before. The crust was still soft and chewy but the toppings on it were bland. I remembered how good the merger of the white sauce and mozzarella cheese was back then, I don't seem to get it now.
